A family business, not a factory brand
For eighteen years, Horlim has had one job: to help people move more comfortably.
It started with one man looking for relief for himself. Today it is a Cambodian family business serving thousands of customers, from stalls in Phnom Penh to pharmacies in the provinces — still the same herbal formula, still run by the same family.
We combine traditional Khmer herbal knowledge with modern production standards, because we believe both matter. Our thinking is simple: when people feel better, they live better.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Our founder, Mr. Hout Kao, worked hard, and his body let him know it. Recurring muscle and joint discomfort made ordinary days harder than they should have been. He saw doctors, and he kept looking for something that would help him through the rest of the day.
Eventually he made his own. Drawing on traditional Khmer herbal knowledge — the kind that is passed down rather than written down — he spent years adjusting a herbal formula until it did what he needed it to do.
He used it himself first. Then his family tried it. Then neighbours and friends started asking for a bottle of their own.
That is the whole origin story. No investors and no marketing plan — just a formula that worked well enough that people kept coming back for it. In 2008 Mr. Hout Kao began producing it properly, and HORLIM Herbal Balm became a registered Cambodian product.
